"D" is for......

Jenny Matlock

Duty is described as doing what is necessary
to keep things you hold dear alive
I believe it is everybody's duty
to make sure to help their beliefs survive

Duty is not a word I use frivolously
 or ever take too lightly
if it means I stand watch over loved ones
then I'll proudly do it nightly

Like chocolate and peanut butter
Duty and honor go hand and hand
If this country needed me again
I'd be there at the presidents command

I'm a proud American son
of an American military family
and if anybody was in trouble
they can always count on me

I stand side by side with others because
Duty for me comes naturally
I believe our beliefs will survive
because of others who are just like me.

  1. Duty.... Tee hee hee hee.... er, um sorry... This is a more serious piece (LOL piece of duty..... eh, hem... Ok, sorry). This is a very heartfelt right, sorry for my little teenage, boy type humor there:-). Nicely done!

  5. Such a strong poem. Very nicely worded.

  6. Living and working on a military base as I do, I think this is awesome....

  7. Thanks for your sense of duty. I look forward to reading your words each week!

  8. Patriotic...very well expressed.

  9. We all owe a great debt of gratitude to our troops.

    My post today: Divine Nature

  10. Duty is a great D word! It also is what you have to pay when you shop in another country!

  11. Someone I correspond with used the following quote as an e-mail tag around Veterans Day. I'm sharing it with you as it seems to fit the theme of your post:

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." - That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it."

  12. I'm proud to be an American! And it's men like you who have defended my right to be an American. Thank you!! May God Bless and keep you!!

  13. I never even thought of duty as a D word.

What a heroic take on this simple word.

I love that you take it seriously.

I love that you share your philosophy with us.

    Thank you for linking up.
