B is for business

"it's nothing personal, it's just business". Which,in my humble opinion is just bullshit. Every time more then one person is involved it at some level becomes personal. It can't be avoided it's who we are. Just business would mean there would be no emotion shown on either side of the equation, which considering I've been on both sides of the conversation, just out and out is NOT true. Sure the way saying that awful phrase may have less emotional investment then the one receiving it but still there's ALWAYS a pang of emotion. Whether it's guilt for not being able to keep someone because of economic reasons, or hate that they misrepresented themselves or hurt the business in some other way. It is that emotion good or bad that makes it personal. It will always be there as long as there is a personal touch to the business. Until businesses are run by emotionless robots, overseeing emotionless robots it will never be just business. Now if you all will excuse me I have to go tell people where I've decided to work, instead of with them, but it really is nothing personal just business.

  2. How true!

It's a cop out to use those words because if there is a person involved, well, then it is personal!

  3. 'Just business' can be used to justify all sorts of harsh decisions. Nah! I hope your new job is better.

  4. There is always an element of 'personal' in everything but sometimes, even though it may not appear so at the time, it's what has to be done for the greater good. We like to think that people keep it as business as they can by keeping the 'greater good' in mind & not their 'personal good' but we are only human. Thanks for reading my blog, very good advice on my balkanizing!

  6. Those two phrases are used more often than I want to hear. Like everyone said, it's always personal.

  7. It's personal. And I can only hope that those that think it's only business will get to feel just how personal it can be. Maybe then they will become humans with compassion.~Ames

  8. "It's just business" is often a way to distance oneself from bad (read: unethical) behavior. And behavior is personal, but from the subject's point of view, not necessarily the object's. Because someone else acts badly doesn't mean it's about you, even if it affects you somehow. Just saying.

  9. Hi Terry. Welcome to Alphabe-Thursday! First if all, I have to say this was really a timely piece for me. This particular phrase seems to be used more and more as a poor disguise for cruelty and greed. And I share your sentiments EXACTLY.

But now for my little editing part.

This particular meme needs to be kept at PG because there are quite a few homeschool families who use it each week. I think your opinion is great and I'm not sure how you will feel about this censure.

I hope you continue with this because your viewpoint is really timely and well written. If you choose to continue with "C", I'd really appreciate you leaving a linkback as well. It makes it easier for people to continue through the meme.

    Yikes.

I'm thinking you better not run for Donald Trump's political slogan writer - ha!

    Thanks for linking up.

  10. Just heard my former neighbor was laid off as a teacher -- she moved to the new area to get a job. When asked why, she was given no reason...not even a just business. Joni

  12. Gotta laugh at Jenny's slap on the hand:) She's really going to smack me this week!

Your rant is a good one and very true. Keep posting whatever you feel. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to read again. Just be yourself, that's what blogging is all about.

Now I'll go see what else you have...
